Android hits 100K applications; still follows Apple

Besides with wireless networks and geeky technology specifications, the apps presented in the smartphone have become a significant item differentiator and that's why news, which Google’s android OS strike100, 000 applications sent this top with the technology globe, with a large number of blogs estimates.

Apple has been the undeniable innovator in apps, and the company's Application Store still provides nearly 3 times as many mobile applications as Android Market of Google by having a 280,000 of these applications.

But Android's quick expansion offers a few techsters expecting a coup.

Here is a blog GigaOm's break down from the figures:

"This puts Android Market on a solid growth pace, although it still trails Apple's App Store by a wide margin. Apple's App Store, which opened on July 10, 2008, hit 100,000 apps in 482 days while the Android Market took 733 days to reach the same point after launching on October 22 in 2008. Apple still has a considerable amount of momentum, making it difficult for any competitor to catch up to."

In spite of that perspective, computer world lists five reasons Google Android will defeat Apple the leader in mobile apps.

One of the reasons: Google android is initially to add prefer with the individuals who produce applications, which can lead to more exciting application store in the future.
More about which from Computerworld:

"Apple doesn't just censor apps; it also sets draconian rules about what types of development tools developers are allowed to use to build apps. With Android, there are no such rules openness will win."

PCWorld still, informs that Apple's App Shop may be more profitable, for now at least, for these app designers.

"Android developers have been slower to bring their programs to market than their Apple counterparts. While it has taken 20 months for the Android Marketplace to hit 100K, Apple's App Store did it in 16 months, which may not be surprising to some observers. Selling apps for Android hasn't had the monetary rewards selling them for Apple's mobile products has had for some developers."

Certainly, there are more cellular operating systems apart from those from Google and Apple. Blackberry still prospects the smartphone market in the US, and Nokia, using the Symbian operating system, is the universal leader.
However, at least in the USA, Google and Apple still battle it out to offer the best, most-forward-thoughts smartphones on the market. Applications are sure to be a large part of the fight.
