Blackberry has the total dimension of 114 mm x 66 mm x 14 mm and the Nokia has the total dimension of 114 mm x 57 mm x 10 mm. And both the gadgets weigh just about the same, the Blackberry weighs 133 gm whereas the Nokia weighs slightly less about 127 g. Both gadgets have a QWERTY keyboard covering the bottom half of the face of the gadget with a small stylish display screen (2.36 in on the Nokia, 2.6 in on the Blackberry) above it. Fascinatingly, the display screens on each gadget have a quality greater to that of their counterpart.

The Blackberry has greater resolution of 480 x 320 pixels than the Nokia phone which has 320 x 240 pixels; however the Nokia phone has more colors of 16 million to than the blackberry phone which has 65,000 colors. Then, for a matter of preference, the Blackberry device main navigation is a trackball but the Nokia E71 phone uses a Five-way scroll key. Also a simple matter of preference, the Blackberry functions on the Blackberry OS, whereas the Nokia phone runs on the Symbian OS.

Other differences amongst these two phones are their built-in GPS with mapping capabilities ( the Nokia E71 using Nokia Maps, the Blackberry Bold using Blackberry Maps), and photo calling, Wi-Fi, voice dialing, video calling, speakerphone and Bluetooth v2.0 with the A2DP. They also both support 3G and HSDPA and operate on the AT&T's EDGE network.

Also, both gadgets has microSD card slots for external memory up to 8 GB, though the Blackberry has more in built memory of 1 GB but the Nokia has 110 MB (both the gadgets have 128 Megabytes onboard RAM though). They both have a USB v2.0 port, although the Nokia also has the microUSB port.

On account of multimedia features, each of the devices has built in digital cameras, however the Blackberry Bold phone has camera with 2 mega pixels whereas the Nokia E71 phone camera has 3 mega pixels. Both cameras, however, have video recording and LED flash capabilities. Both gadgets also have a built-in Mp3 player.

You can view Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint documents on both gadgets, however you could only edit them on the Blackberry mobile phones.

Deciding between these two gadgets is a difficult call, and might come down to inappropriate features like the availability of preferred third party apps. Or you might just like better the Blackberry operating system to Symbian. You could also opt for the Blackberry Bold if you would like to be able to edit Microsoft Office documents, although you may lean towards the Nokia E71 if you would rather take crystal clear digital photos. Really these two gadgets are quite comparable.
