LG introduced its first Android smartphone

The electronics maker LG Electronics unveiled its first mobile phone with the GW620, which will run on the basis of Google's Android operating system. The smartphone is to come during the fourth quarter of 2009 on the European market.

LG has so far mostly set on Windows Mobile and will remain a majority of its hardware to manage it. The Koreans react with the GW620, however, have presented to competitors like Motorola and Samsung to put the emphasis on Android and recently new devices. Also LG would concentrate at the GW620 fully functional social networking area, it is said by the manufacturer. "With the Android operating system and the new user interface can be faster to send to the Internet and in online communities, chat or e-mails absolutely timely," says Nils Seib, Public Relations Manager at LG Electronics Germany, press text on demand.

LG is at present no technical details - for example in the form of a data sheet on the product announced -. The GW620 is relevant, however, according to media reports surfaced already under the name LG Etna at IFA in Berlin. LG will equip its new smartphone in all probability with a three-inch touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard. The latter will be available in two contemporary colors, and extendable. The display will vary, although with a smaller 0.2 "screen size slightly smaller than the Samsung Galaxy, navigation buttons and a text cursor will, however, facilitate the operation. Similarly, the standard equipment will include a 3.5-millimeter mini-jack and a USB 2.0 port, Bluetooth, and a five-megapixel camera.

LG has been set to Windows Mobile from Microsoft and the end of 2010 will bring a wealth of other smartphones on the basis of this operating software on the market. The new models are operated with high probability, however, even with Windows Mobile in version 6.5, which will be published in early October. Sony Ericsson and HTC still planning other well-known manufacturers with the Xperia X2 and the Touch2, launch Windows Mobile-based smartphones. More and more manufacturers not to pursue a Mehrebenenstrategie and take continuously Android phones in its product portfolio.
