Wi-Fi is similar to traditional Ethernet network and as such the establishment of communication needs to a previous configuration. It uses the same frequency spectrum as Bluetooth with a higher output power leads to stronger connections.

This is sometimes called the Wi-Fi "wireless Ethernet. Although this description is not very precise, gives an idea of their advantages and disadvantages compared to other alternatives. Network is better suited for general purpose: it allows faster connections, a range of distances greater and better security mechanisms.

You can compare the efficiency of various wireless transmission protocols such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, using space capacity (bits per second and square meter).

The name comes from the Danish and Norwegian King Harald I of Denmark whose translation into English would be Harold Bluetooth (Blue Tooth, although in Danish means 'dark skinned') known for good communicator and to unify the tribes Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.

Similarly, Bluetooth tries to unite different technologies like computers, mobile phones and other peripherals.

The Bluetooth symbol is the union of the Nordic runes analogous to B and H: (Hagall) and (Berkanan).

In 1998, Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Toshiba and Nokia formed a consortium and adopted as a name for your Bluetooth specification. In December 1999, 3Com, Lucent, Microsoft and Motorola joined the group as a promoter of Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group, Special Interest Group). Lucent subsequently transferred its stake to its satellite Agere Systems and 3Com left the group of promoters. Agere Systems was later merged with LSI Corporation and left the group in August 2007.

The Bluetooth SIG is a private non-profit organization with headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. As of September 2007, the SIG is comprised of more than 9000 companies in telecommunications, computing, automotive, music, textiles, industrial automation and networking technologies. Have small groups of staff dedicated to the group in Hong Kong, Sweden and the United States. SIG members drive the development of Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as implement and commercialize the technology in their products. The Bluetooth SIG itself does not manufacture or sell Bluetooth devices.
