Given the technological advances that imposed the blockade of the networks in some public venues and other mechanisms have emerged to "defend" people and events that silence is precious to those disrespectful mobile phone users, the GSM Association, an association encompasses the GSM operators worldwide, has published a series of recommendations on the use of mobile phones in places of special sensitivity.
The GSM Association believes that the rules of etiquette governing the use of mobile phones should be directed by the same principles as those governing the conduct and behavior of people in society. Such rules of etiquette are fundamentally based on the concepts of courtesy and respect. The most important of these rules is that they should not rely on the "doing" or "do" since the rules may vary from culture to culture, context and even in context of time. What may be considered acceptable in one situation may be considered rude in another.
The use of GSM technology and equipment is primarily the responsibility of the user. However, the GSM Association believes the media have the task of educating users on etiquette and education using the mobile, providing insights into responsible and courteous use of portable equipment.
Laws on mobile phone use
In some places, there are some laws that restrict the use of mobile telephones or similar devices. The user should observe local laws.
Using mobile phones in public places
It is generally accepted that there are some places where people should not talk to mobile phone and where even hear the sound of clarion call is considered unacceptable.
In most countries, movies and gear box, weddings and funerals, concerts, lectures and readings are the kinds of public events in which the touch of a phone or the act of holding a conversation are beyond question.
But this does not necessarily mean that mobile phones must be disconnected or can not be used in any way. If further communication is vital on these occasions for whatever reason, you may consider switching mode or silent vibration alert, using the keyboard to send a text message. Alternatively, check your voice mail and respond to the message later.
If you mistakenly forget to put on silent mode or vibration alert and the phone rang at a "delicate", the only solution is to try to turn off the tap and divert the call to voicemail (usually by pressing used to hang).
The call by some "theme restaurants" is a much more subjective. The general atmosphere of the place should give clues to apply the proper label, but it's best to ask what the policy of the premises to any employee. Like any other event, the phone can be placed on silent or vibrator mode. If you need to answer or make a call is advisable to consider leaving the table and meet at the entrance, for example.
If you are traveling, and since there is GSM roaming protocols with almost all countries, we recommend that you turn off your phone if you do not want to receive calls at odd hours inconvenient.
Business meetings
Business meetings do not share the same recommendations that "public places". Although considerations based on courtesy still apply, such meetings tend to set their own rules, which must be observed by all participants. In those where there is no preset rules, or no habit of it, put the phone to silent or vibration, taking those that are most important off-site meeting is being held.
Public Transportation
Passengers of means of transport such as trains or buses, could expect a smooth ride and quiet. So might be offended by cell phone conversations aloud. For this reason, some trains offer "quiet zones" and mobile-free cars. In cars without restriction makes sense to make quiet conversation. With the technology fitted to existing terminals do not need to shout to the caller hears us, microphones are highly sensitive.
The narrow and small public places is not the best place to have a conversation with the mobile. A crowded elevator, it is best to admonish our interlocutor to wait a few seconds. As in the rest of the cases above, it must respect the reasonable expectations that passengers have about the trip.
Be careful walking
Streets and roads are completely appropriate for walking and talking at the phone at once. However, it is important to remember certain aspects that may go unnoticed, such as loss of attention to traffic. And scream to a mobile phone is just as unacceptable to the other pedestrians. This is especially true becomes more remote places, where peace and tranquility is incompatible with certain behaviors.
Emergencies
Mobile phones have become in modern life jackets, providing assistance to those in need around the world, 365 days a year. Tens of thousands of emergency calls are made each day requiring the presence of either police, fire or ambulance.
Emergency assistance should be required even when there is doubt "emergency", taking into account the nature of it, of course. But we must avoid at all costs to remedy abuse support services. Unnecessary or false calls to these services are not just bad jokes of dubious taste and grace as illegal in many countries.
For those who travel and carry your GSM phone is best to know which is the local number for assistance, for use when needed.
GSM Association is warning users of a mobile phone that does not rely on the coverage of your device to alert to a possible emergency in isolated areas or coastal. Should carry appropriate rescue equipment with them.
In short
GSM Association asks users to use their mobile devices responsibly, to think about the impact of the use of their equipment at all times. Also asked to be aware of where they are at every moment, with whom they are and what they are doing themselves and those around them when deciding to accept a call. And to respect what other people expect to find in every situation.
