Stockholm - A European consortium led by EUROSTARS Appear receives the prestigious award for context sensitive mobile services for the security forces and rescue personnel
The CAMPUS project (Context-Aware Mobility Platform for User Security), which was developed by Appear and Wireless @ KTH in Sweden, as well as Page Up in France, recently received the Eurostars label.During the second round of the Eurostars Joint Campus Program is a EUR 2.4 million project, which was launched in June 2009. With the context-sensitive mobile technology, smart mobile devices can receive both warnings and make the connection with surveillance cameras and environmental sensors to support security and rescue personnel in emergency situations.
The currently available mobile solutions are typically based on simple portable radios or GSM phones that are equipped only with limited positioning and data capabilities. The staff at the outdoor usually has only limited information about the events it receives via audio communication from the command center. Consequently, the staff does not have sufficient knowledge of the situation to meet in an emergency, the right decisions.
On the other hand, employees can at the command center or in the control access to comprehensive information that is transmitted via SCADA systems (sensors) and CCTV solutions (video surveillance). This information is often vital for staff in outdoor applications.
By using existing technologies, including GSM / HSDPA, TETRA, Wi-Fi and RFID, as well as newer technologies such as augmented reality, represents the CAMPUS project ensures that the staff has extensive outdoor time situational information to hand. The staff at the outdoor is now independent (from its location in buildings or underground) large amounts of relevant information in real time from the command center to retrieve and display data from nearby sensors directly onto their mobile devices.
Xavier Aubry, CEO of Appear: "Imagine a mobile device against which locates your colleagues to reflect real-time video feeds, access to fire detection sensors, and pops up all this information in real-time recording of your surroundings. This solution will lead to faster operations, fewer false alarms and greater certainty for all parties. "
Alexander Throm, Regional Manager of Appear: "We have already started pilot installations, such as the police of Rotterdam. We invite public and private organizations that are interested in participating in the project as a technology partner or user. "
