While getting rid of a browser for Windows Mobile: - Research in Motion (RIM) is the developer of BlackBerry. In a magnificent pair, the company has just bought Torch Mobile, a company specializing in the design of browsers. However, among the projects, one of them concerned IrisBrowser, a browser based on WebKit and from the Windows Mobile platform.
iris
IrisBrowser was available for some time and embodied the hope of the arrival of the HTML rendering engine Webkit on Windows Mobile. The engine, regarded as one of the best in the field, if not the best, has enabled phones and devices based on Microsoft operating system to benefit from a browser capable of rendering websites in their entirety.
The purchase of Torch Mobile RIM makes two major changes:
Iris Browser is abandoned, the buyer torpedoing the ephemeral life of a product on a platform competitor
A browser based on Webkit will be proposed later on BlackBerry
It must be said that the RIM phones, popular in the professional world does not shine by their browser, considered far behind products like Safari in the iPhone or the Android browser. Webkit team just these two products and RIM has to match well, contributing further to the Webkit HTML engine reference.
